The new Facebook app- Slingshot

Recently, Facebook launched a new Snapchat-like mobile app that allows user to exchange temporary photos and videos based messages. Slingshot allows users to sign up for their service with their mobile phone number and connect with friends in their contact lists or their Facebook friends.

Some highlights on Slingshot

  • Like Snapchat, photos on Slingshot will automatically disappear after they are viewed for few seconds.
  • Photos on Slingshot disappear from users’ phone shortly after they are viewed. This reflects the growing anxiety about privacy in the age of Internet social networking.
  • Unlike other social media app, users will not be able to view the photos they received from their friends until they respond by sending back a photo or video of their own.
  • Slingshot allows users to send, or ‘sling’ messages to multiple friends at once. Users are able to see a notification when they receive a message, but will only get to see the image after they respond.
  • Slingshot succeeds Poke, a messaging app that Facebook has shut down months ago.

In my opinion, Slingshot is an interesting social media apps that enhances users’ participation and creativity. This apps is designed for exchanging spontaneous moments or bits and pieces of creativity. It shows that simple things in life can turn into splendid life experience.
